• Join the "International Signature Campaign in Support of the Appeal of the Hibakusha for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons" (20th September, 2017)

    *Pilgrimage to Hiroshima: YWCA of Japan's annual program to learn and share the importance of peace and a nuclear-free world

    The 26th of September marks the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
    On 7th July this year, the United Nations adopted the Nuclear Weapon Prohibition Treaty (http://undocs.org/A/CONF.229/2017/8), a groundbreaking progress which acknowledges the inhumane nature of the nuclear weapons, and the need for their total abolition.
    Regrettably, some countries, especially those that possess nuclear weapons and those that are said to be under the "nuclear umbrella", are not supportive of this treaty.

    "Hibakusha"s in Japan, the survivors of the Atomic Bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, have made an appeal for the conclusion of this treaty to ban and eliminate all nuclear weapons.
    The YWCA of Japan calls on all our sisters around the world to support this initiative, by spreading and adding your voice to the "International Signature Campaign in Support of the Appeal of the Hibakusha for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons".
    The online petition can be signed below;

    Written petitions can be collected on the petition sheet and sent to the YWCA of Japan via postmail or by sending a scanned copy by email(office-japan@ywca.or.jp).
    The World YWCA movement has made a significant decision to adopt the resolution on the "Equal Denial of Nuclear Weapons/Energy" during the World YWCA Council in 2015
    It is time for us all to act on this commitment, so thet we can realize a nucear-free world.
