On March 15, Wednesday, during the CSW61 in New York, the YWCA of Japan held a parallel event “Young Women’s Leadership for Peace- Learning from `Pilgrimage to Hiroshima`” organized by three young women. They shared the experience and learnings from the “Pilgrimage to Hiroshima”, a peace-education program regarding the Atomic Bomb dropped in the city in 1945. They provided virtual experience of the “Pilgrimage to Hiroshima” , including visit to memorial sites through visual materials, introduction of testimonies of the survivors, and sharing of experiences as young women’s leaders who organized the program. During the event, the participants exchanged opinions on various topics such as Hiroshima, war, education, interaction at grass-root level, compensation/ apology for wartime crimes and atrocities etc. in constructive way. At the end of the discussion, they wrote out their idea on how to create, promote and sustain peace.
