YWCA of Japan and 11 other NGOs organized an event of appeal; "Light on Gaza! Immediately Stop Military Attack! Peace Parade and Symposium" in Tokyo on January 10th. 1500 people marched the parade and 500 people came for the symposium although it was very immediate organization! Keep on believing, keep on acting. Our global action has a power to change!

The march went around the heart of Tokyo for about 2 hours, drawing serious attention from a crowd of people on the street in Saturday afternoon. The symposium followed after the parade started by candle vigil, which was called by YWCA of Palestine, and Christian, Buddhist, and Muslim leaders gave sermon. “It is not a religious war, but it really is an issue of human rights” a word by the Muslim leader echoed in people’s heart.

After a silent prayer, a video by a journalist Toshikuni Doi reporting the reality of siege, and a report by United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) were presented. In it, voices of people who were helplessly isolated in the man-made disaster were heard and also a message from global community such as Norway’s medical team at Shifa Hospital in Gaza was sent.

There also were lots of messages urgently sent to the symposium from musicians, doctors, journalist and so force, and panelist talk by a journalist Ryuichi Hirokawa who directed a documentary film about Palestine called “Nakba”, and Kayoko Ikeda, a translator and peace maker who wrote a book “If the World were a Village of 100 People”.

We raise our voices and say “Light on Gaza! Immediately Stop Military Attack!” and “Lift the siege immediately!!”
